An evening @ EKKA ! in Brisbene..austalias new world city

what a fine evening to go visit EKKA !!! ..so me and my friends decided to go visit Ekka....and actually its a couple of stope from where  we lived too!! so it was just a matter of geting on the train and getting off just in front of "Ekka Show grounds"!

Meet my uni friends !! and yes i have a circle of great friends from all around the world !! this is one big plus when you some overseas to study as an international student ! you make friends from all over the world..and then the wold becomes a very small place <3
from the right, Manaho form Japan , Sung from Korea, Alison from France and my "OZ BRO" Oscar form Brisbane ! Alison and sung just arrived to Australia so they were pretty excited to go see EKKA !!! so..what is EKKA???

Here is a very short and sweet history that i pulled out form the web thanx to the web site here

The Royal National Association

Girl with showbag at an early EkkaOn 13 August 1875 a group of colonists met at the Brisbane Town Hall to form the National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland. The association's charter, with Governor Sir William Cairns as its president, was to promote and encourage the agricultural and industrial development of Queensland; as well as provide a unique opportunity for country and urban residents to come together in a celebration of Queensland lifestyle.

The First Show

Bowen Park was chosen in January 1876 as the site for the first Show. The park covered 6.8 hectares bordered by Bowen Bridge Road, Gregory Terrace and a creek which ran through the middle of what is now Main Arena.
The 'Intercolonial Exhibition of 1876' was held from 22 - 26 August. A public holiday was declared and on opening day 17,000 people attended - a colossal success, given that the total population of Brisbane at the time was only 22,000.
Men attended in their suits and ladies in their finest garments. Food was served on long tables and the first showbag - a bag of coal - was free for all visitors.

The Origin of 'Ekka'

The first 'Royal' Show was held in 1921, when the Association was granted the prefix under warrant from His Majesty King George V.
Since then, the shortened name "Ekka" has replaced "Exhibition" in the Queensland vernacular, indicating locals' affection for the Show.
Ekka has since been held every year with only two exceptions. In 1919, Brisbane suffered a Spanish influenza epidemic, and in 1942 during wartime the Showgrounds were used as a staging depot for troops moving north.

The modern Ekka

Today, Ekka runs for ten days and attracts about half a million visitors every August. Ekka is famous for its mix of entertainment, agriculture and education. From Champion Rooster of Show to the glamorous fashion parades, Ekka has always celebrated the rural and the urban; the traditional and the innovative, and it's for this reason the event holds a special place in the hearts of Queenslanders - as it has for generations.

so.......back to our story <3
This is a day to showcase there pride..the Queen slanders pride! people form all walks of life..mainly farming and agriculture industry come gather here with  what they have to show to the rest of the country...especially for the people form the urban areas where they don't really get a chance to see these things!
our first stop was actually one of the highlights of the day ! the motor car  show !!!
Drivers riding in there much loved vehicles with all all the deco that will help them win this competition !

was so fascinating to see all this cars dressed up and modified to give them a rugged "outback" look! which was what they were aiming to achieve ! to get the most rugged look as possible !!! every one was proud to show off there respective flags that showed the ordinance where they come from in Australia. They all sure did do a good job in entertaining all of us with there horns and exhaust sounds !

There was a good supportive crowd to keep the drivers happy and feeling good about there individual performances ! we all gathered near the fence when the cars passed by us just so that we get a chance to do a quick hand shake   ( i guess that's what u call the act you see on the left ? :-)
?

on top of the cars that drove on the track , there were other events that were happening within the grounds too !

i managed to capture this beautiful sunset background with my friends in it ! its was time to say good bye to the motor show .
then we came to the farming section ..where they had different variety of cows and sheep for public viewing <3

well this was not an actual person stuck underneath this humungous animal !!!! it was just a prop !!!;-)!!! could become a good prank hey ;-)!

we tried our luck here and spent a good deal of $$$ but of cource it was all worth it..all for a good cause <3

and of course  iconic Ekka Strawberry Sundae!!! we could not say good bye to EKKA tonight without trying those !!!!
i get excited when i see some one with a interesting looking camera or a different lens so i don't forget to take a picture of a person taking a picture !!!
